In Episode 002 of the Super Simple podcast, Black Spectacles founder, Marc Teer interviews Andrew Watkins of Ayers Saint Gross about the design technologies used to create the University of Delaware's Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Lab project, which won an AIA Technology in Architectural Practice (TAP) Innovation Award in 2015.
The design and construction team challenged one another throughout the design project to create a modern building through modern project delivery techniques. This affected everything from the subcontractors to how designs were presented to the client. Thirteen Revit models were developed and were used for coordination and robotically-controlled bulldozers were brought in for a greater level of control. All of these things combined resulted in reducing construction time by more than 60 days.
